Friday Flicks: A Little Tool

Danny Carey Interview

A few years back after Lateralus was released, Danny Carey (the drummer from Tool) did an interview with Jeff Ocheltree for ‘Trust Your Ears: The Drum Tech Explorations of Jeff Ocheltree’, during which he plays the climactic section of the title track of the album (one of my favorites of their entire collection).

Jambi Live

In my opinion, Jambi is one of the more technically astonishing songs that Tool has ever recorded. For the first few minutes of the song, Danny Carey is on a largely independent time scale from the rest of the band; yet there is a harmony in it.

This is a good live recording of Jambi - “Here from my kings mountain view…”:

Muhammad My Friend

In ‘96, Tori Amos convinced Maynard James Keenan (lead singer of Tool) to join her on stage for a rendition of her song Muhammad My Friend. Overall, it’s a nice rendition:

Wrestling to ‘Push-It’

A fan gets on stage during one of the key moments of Push-It and Keenan simply tackles him and continues singing while he’s got him subdued.
