Using Your Host for Backups
Tue, 05/01/2007 - 02:07 — R.J. Lorimer
Before switching to Dreamhost, I was mostly hosted by VPS accounts, with my storage on the high-end being around 5 GB. With Dreamhost, I have over 350 GB.
If you’re like me, you don’t have an adequate backup scheme on your home computers. Granted, some of my data (particularly on my big server hard drives) is fairly excessive in size, and the best I can hope to do with most of it is use technologies such as RAID.
Amazon S3 is a service for storing data, but if you are using Dreamhost, you may want to consider either using you hosting plan’s storage, or using files forever.
This article at the unofficial Dreamhost blog references a great series of articles on how to do just that. Who’s better at backing up your files than a hosting provider?
